Arguments?

Why must all conversations with teenagers end in arguments? Every time I attempt a conversation with my male teenager, it ends with us arguing! Why....because he knows EVERYTHING!!!! Seriously! If he doesn't know everything, then he thinks you are criticizing him.

He ran in a cross country meet on Saturday, and I was telling him how fast the Varsity kids did and that he did a great job! He tells me those who run fast do so because of genetics?! OK, fine if you say so. I said I am just saying you did a good job. He then goes into a spill telling me I don't think he is a good runner...what? Where did that come from? Sometimes I begin to wonder if it is worth having a serious conversation at all? I will assume I can have one where I don't really care if he must have the last word and that he know everything about everything that we are talking about. Maybe not?
