A friend of mine posted a blog with the saying "Bless your heart", this brought up lots of memories of my Granny. So, I thought I would post a few of my favorite quotes from her as I was growing up:
1. Bless your heart-as Angie said it could be sincere or it could mean you are so stupid!
2. Lord have mercy-I can believe that really happened.
3. Lordy be-oh my goodness.
4. My dogs ain't in that fight-not getting involved in that argument.
5. Throw the baby out with the bath water-don't get in a rush.
6. Poppycock-well He**
7. Dag gummint-well Sh**
8. Heck O'Peek-well crap.
9. Water my horse-go to the bathroom.
10. Tall drink of water-good lookin
11. Finer than a frogs hair-not real sure on this one...maybe good lookin?
12. Busier than a one legged man in a butt kicking contest-real busy
13. Doesn't have a pot to piss in-broke
These are just a few of them....will add more as they come to mind! Enjoy reading!
My mom's from Harlan County so I could go on forever, but here are a few:
ReplyDelete"Since God was a boy"--a long time
"wouldn't wear that to a dog fight"--that's an ugly outfit
"I'd like to buy him for what he's worth and sell him for what he thinks he's worth" --often said about my high school boyfriends ;)
Wow, I love these. Here are a few of my own:
ReplyDelete"He got beat with an ugly stick." - A highly unattractive person
"Hotter than a wh*re in church." - Pretty hot
"Tighter than the bark on a hickory tree." - Someone who is cheap.
"Yonder." As in, over there.
"Holler." As in, down in a valley.
