So as I have been pondering over the last several weeks of some more old time sayings I used to hear when I was a kid, I kinda blanked out. Slowly but surely some more have come to mind:
Jerk a knot in your tail-a spanking
More than one way to skin a cat-different ways to do something
Raining cats and dogs-pouring
Sweating like a wh*** in Church-sweating A LOT!
Want me to give you something to cry about-literal meaning :)
"jerk a knot in your tail" was one of my grandmother's favorites. I've tried using it (with appropriate threatening tone of voice, pointing finger, and scowl)with my kids, who just look at me like I've got two heads. Maybe we need to replace it with something like "back the car over your thumb drive". That might scare them!
